Key Trends for Autumn Winter 2012
  Lace
Because it is both romantic and classic, lace can be worn as a stand alone statement piece, or pairs perfectly with more conservative pieces to take it easily into the boardroom arena. Weather it's a whimsical lace sheath dress or a flirty lace shell top, it is the perfect mix of glamour and femininity. Stick to lingerie colours of white, black and nude for a demure yet sophisticated look. Bright colours can easily take it from chic to cheap.

JEANIOUS!! They are a much loved part of a wardrobe, but sometimes its hard to find a pair that loves us back - one that hugs us in all the right places, hides our lady lumps and knickers, whilst not breaking the bank. This "Fabulous" pair from Katies Fashion ($39) ticks all the boxes and then some!!! It has a hidden elastic control panel in the waistband so they won't gape at the back. They also suck in that tummy for a flattering silhouette. The "Ultimate"...

be prepared for retail therapy
BE PREPARED!! Nothing can be more disheartening when you go clothes shopping and the reflection staring back at you in the change room mirrors is of someone you no longer recognise. Those extra winter kilos, cellulite, pasty skin and blemishes are magnified ten-fold in front of those unforgiving lights and cruel mirrors.  So..... next time you know you are going to try on clothes or swimwear..BE PREPARED!!! Apply fake tan the night before (tan fat always look thinner than white fat),...

Layering can be a girl's best friend
Layering can be a girl's best friend. Not only does a layering piece, like a jacket, vest, waistcoat or scarf add further visual interest to your outfit - it also creates vertical lines which lengthen and elongate your body, as well as visually dissect, and therefore minimise, a larger tummy, bust or thighs (see Nigella and Magda below with their contrasting layering piece). Layering also enables you to wear many of your summer pieces throughout the cooler months of the year. Just...

Avoid Shiny Fabrics
STYLE TIP: Avoid wearing shiny fabrics over your predominant body parts (see Kim Kardashian below - Before & After) - particularly over a bootylicious behind, or generous thighs and tummy. The fabric will reflect light and make you look much bigger in that area. Matt fabrics are more flattering, particularly in a darker colour, as they absorb light and minimise.  Shiny fabrics also have the tendency to appear "cheap" quality.  Always opt for a thicker, rather than a...

Key Trends for Spring Summer 2011
Neon-brights Get ready for an optic jolt in the guise of acid colors such as electric blue, hot pink, lime green, purple, fluorescent orange and yellow. Designers such as Christopher Kane and Jil Sander made a splash with their neon coloured pieces for Spring 2011.  Make a bold statement with towers of single-colour blocks from head to toe or break the fashion rules by deliberately contrasting dramatic colours for a real runway look. Body Shape Tip: Wear the brighter colours on the...

Accessories or Excessories
Accessories can make or break an outfit. The right accessories can transform a relatively simple dress into a head turner.  Slide on a dramatic cocktail ring, or clip on a pair of sparkling chandelier earrings and their transformative powers are instant and undeniable.  You might be wearing your favourite jeans and Havianas, but once you throw on a great belt, or casually drape a gorgeous scarf around your neck, you are one step closer to fabulous! Accessories aren’t limited ...

It is the most quintessential part of every woman’s wardrobe - a garment that can be worn for any and every occasion. It is the ultimate blank canvas.  It is mysterious and stylish, understated and provocative.  In its simplicity, it makes you look effortlessly chic.  In its sophistication, it makes...

Colours of Winter
Winter is a season that has popularly been associated with dark shades and hues: blacks, greys and dark blues. In the last few years, however, the fashion industry has seen a major shift in this trend. No longer are blacks and greys the only colours a woman can wear in winter. This winter, step into a world of beige, orange, red and metallic hues. The L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival saw a whole range of caramels, camel, tan and light chocolate colours become the rage this winter....

Celebrity Fashion Trends This Winter
When I think of my favourite Hollywood star, an image of immaculate sophistication and couture comes to mind. But recent years have seen a slight shift in celebrity fashion trends as well. Take Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, for instance; her simple elegance is the perfect combination of couture and chain store fashion. This is something that is becoming a trend with most celebrities. The key to a well dressed winter is layering and accessorizing. And no one does it better than...
